Yelp: you already use it to write love letters to your favorite molten chocolate cake and leave angry constructive criticism of bad waiters.
But it’s also a crucial way to reach local customers, and help them find and connect with your business.
Here are a few basic things to keep in mind:
Make your business easy to find. First, take charge of your account. If a page has already been created, as the business owner, you can take it over. Triple check your contact info and make it simple for people to discover you.
Control your image. While owners definitely can’t influence Yelp reviews, they can respond to them. Avoid knee-jerk reactions and counter any less-than-flattering reviews with polite responses. That’ll show all of your customers that you care about service. If you’re dealing with unanimous five-star reviews (you overachiever, you),make sure to say thanks.
Don’t get frustrated. Yelp’s filter system has received a lot of flak for eliminating extremely positive or negative reviews, but the positives outweigh the negatives. Just think of the commenting system as a way to solicit helpful feedback — for free.
